Located at the junction of Khunlumpapas Road, (a road rumoured never to have had its name spelt the same way twice and so henceforth referred to as the high street) and Udom Chaonithet Road, (henceforth referred to as the small road off the high street that leads down to the lake), the brand new Ngamta Hotel, (pronounced nnnnnggggggamtah), is a welcome addition to the mid-range selection in Mae Hong Son. If you can overlook its bright orange paint, it has reasonable rates and a central location, with spotless and nicely decorated rooms that all come with air-con, hot shower, TV and fridge. While the lobby area is pleasant, there's no restaurant. It's not quite as efficient and well organised as the Baiyoke over the road, but certainly worth a go should that one be full. As always in Mae Hong Son, it's worth asking for extra discounts during quiet months.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. For mid-range hotels and up, always shop around online for a competitive rate. Click here to find out more about what makes Travelfish different with regards our accommodation reviews.
