Around 10km out of town you'll find the Maehongson Resort with an enjoyable river bank location. It proclaims to be Mae Hong Son's first ever 'resort', but don't worry since the accommodation is mostly constructed from concrete and stone -- so the rooms have lasted quite well. Ok they aren't the most luxurious but do come with air-con, TV, minibar and bathroom so are comfortable enough and a good deal for the price. There's a wooden restaurant overlooking the river surrounded by a spacious garden. The resort is situated to the south of Pha Bong village so quite way out of town but if you have a motorbike it is no problem. There are walks to be done in the surrounding area and staff are friendly and helpful.
