Right in the centre of Pai, tucked into a quiet little corner by the river, this attractive resort is a combination of lovely two storey deluxe bungalows and classic adjoined rooms in a colonial-style building. Villa Deluxe downstairs rooms have air-con, while upstairs rooms have private balconies. Decor is simple but elegant, with extra touches such as a private pond and a jacuzzi in larger spa rooms. Riverview bungalows have balconies that face out over the river. They are simple, but charming, with lovely, classical furnishings and a 'natural' bathroom paved in stone and all amenities. All rates include breakfast. The adjoining restaurant serves good fare and hosts live jazz on Sunday afternoons.

I had the good fortune to stay here before all the rebuilding and upgrading happened. This once sleepy village is moving upmarket There was a ''Hey, look at me!'' Ferrari F40 circling around Pai going as fast as my bicycle because of all the speed bumps. Birdsong has been replaced with reving engines from pick ups and SUVs in the chilly mornings and soon all the quaint bamboo bridges across the Nam Pai will be replaced with flash flood proof steel ones.
