This friendly little guesthouse is located in a lush garden on the edge of Mae Yen village, a 10 to 15 minutes' walk from the bridge, so it's not too far and not a bad option if town is full and the riverbank too crowded. Thirteen chalets are a mixture of teak and concrete, and all are individually decorated. They come with en suite hot water shower, fan and soft mattresses that they are very proud of. They are all unfortunately individually priced as well, depending upon size, additional features, location, time of year and so on. It's all so bewilderingly complicated that we're merely going to say that they go from 250B for a basic chalet during low season to 1,300B for the best chalet during high season. Service is friendly as you'd expect from such a small guesthouse and there's a pretty good restaurant specialising in vegetarian dishes.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. Nice place - 24th April, 2008
We stayed in the second most expensive room and paid 550B. Nice rustic room with fan and step down bathroom. Restaurant food was served in small portions and disappointing though. Owner tried to get us to stay longer but Pai has little to offer. We enjoyed our stay mainly because of the great cave and the nice rustic bungalows but I wouldn't return to Pai.
