Shangrila Guesthouse
Quiet, low key and natural
17/3 Moo 1, Pai
Mae Hong Son Province
Tel: (081) 951 0101
Description
Not one for the partiers, Shangrila attracts an older, long-term traveller crowd, particularly small groups of musicians. Cheap, comfortable but basic bungalows, several are taken up by more permanent renters. Up on a hillside, small wooden bungalows have a bathroom with hot shower, and a balcony with a panoramic view. The height allows them to receive a decent breeze whenever the wind is blowing, a pleasure that the huts in the valley miss out on. A restaurant at the front serves delicious vegetarian meals, and a communal kitchen and sala up on the mountainside means that guests can prepare their own food as well.
