Clean basic bungalows in a quiet hilltop spot
Outside of Pai, near Shangrila guesthouse
Mae Hong Son Province

Description
Perched on the side of a hill quite a distance out of Pai, John Bamboo Hut's bungalows are clean and basic with bathroom and hot shower inside. One is larger than the others, perhaps suitable for a small family. At the top of the hill is a seating area where tea and coffee are served in the mornings. A sign leads to a scenic viewpoint which looks out over rice fields. Less the party scene and more of a chill out place, discounts can be negotiated for a longer stay.

Total rooms: 8

The Sun Hut
28/1 Mae Yen, Pai, Mae Hong Son
Twelve bungalows, all named for the signs of the zodiac, occupy leafy jungle grounds just outside of Pai. Some are wooden, while some are concrete, and all vary in price according to their size and amenities. They are all nicely decorated for their price bracket, with fans, mosquito nets and... more

The Good View Guesthouse
East of the Pai River
A little nicer than its neighbours, The Good View has the standard huts: bare but clean, with a thin mattress on the floor and a balcony out front. Some are made of bamboo, while wooden A frame ones are a little nicer, although further from the river. Shared bathroom facilities are pleasant and... more

Pai River Hill Guesthouse
Well out of town, south of the Pai River
This friendly guesthouse starts with a small, unassuming restaurant at the top of the hill, right next to the road. A tenuous bamboo structure, it has a great view over the back of Pai, rice fields and the river. All accommodation is very basic bamboo hut style, some up on the hill with views, some... more

Shangrila Guesthouse
17/3 Moo 1, Pai
Not one for the partiers, Shangrila attracts an older, long-term traveller crowd, particularly small groups of musicians. Cheap, comfortable but basic bungalows, several are taken up by more permanent renters. Up on a hillside, small wooden bungalows have a bathroom with hot shower, and a balcony... more

Baan Visarut Resort
21 Moo 1, Pai
Baan Visarut resort lies next to Shangrila Guesthouse, occupying the space at the bottom of the slope. The area is heavily forested, with huts shaded from the hot sun all day long. The surrounding area is abundant with rice paddies and hills, making this a top spot for walkers. The nine huts are... more

Amy's Earth House
Baan Mae Khong (follow the signs!)
A few kilometres out of Pai is the small village of Baan Mae Khong, just behind the airport runway. Follow the signs through the village and you'll find yourself at Amy's Earth House, a small cluster of seven Adobe (mud) huts set around a small restaurant/sala. The rooms are well finished, with... more
