Pai River Hill Guesthouse
Great cheap backpacker spot
Well out of town, south of the Pai River
Mae Hong Son Province
Tel: (053) 698 230
Description
This friendly guesthouse starts with a small, unassuming restaurant at the top of the hill, right next to the road. A tenuous bamboo structure, it has a great view over the back of Pai, rice fields and the river. All accommodation is very basic bamboo hut style, some up on the hill with views, some closer to the river. All have the obligatory thin mattress, a small balcony with a hammock (for those on the hill) and shared bathroom facilities. These are 'jungle style' but not done with much panache. They do have a hot shower, however, and western toilet, although not especially clean.

) Stayed here 10/2002
I stayed here a few years ago was only meant to stay for 2 nights on a stop over but ended up staying 17! This place is very basic but wonderful and the owner Prem is like mum away from home! am planning on going back next year and cant wait to see how it has progressed! they had just started up when i arrived and didn't really have much of an idea about how to cater for westerners, i would like to think i and my travelling friends helped with getting them well and truly on their way! :o) i really do recommend staying here if you want very basic and CHEAP accommodation with a very warm and friendly atmosphere and not too far from the town with amazing views over Pai and the mountains.....oooh i miss it! dont miss the toilet too much though!

The Good View Guesthouse
East of the Pai River
A little nicer than its neighbours, The Good View has the standard huts: bare but clean, with a thin mattress on the floor and a balcony out front. John Bamboo Hut
Outside of Pai, near Shangrila guesthouse
Perched on the side of a hill quite a distance out of Pai, John Bamboo Hut's bungalows are clean and basic with bathroom and hot shower inside. One is larger than the others, perhaps suitable for a small family. At the top of the hill is a seating area where tea and coffee are served in the... more
Shangrila Guesthouse
17/3 Moo 1, Pai
Not one for the partiers, Shangrila attracts an older, long-term traveller crowd, particularly small groups of musicians.
