Description
A few kilometres out of Pai is the small village of Baan Mae Khong, just behind the airport runway. Follow the signs through the village and you'll find yourself at Amy's Earth House, a small cluster of seven Adobe (mud) huts set around a small restaurant/sala. The rooms are well finished, with coloured glass bottles set into the wall to create funky lighting, and a large open bathroom. Although adobe is a type of mud construction, it is similar in finish to a cement hut, only that it's far more environmentally friendly, and arguably stays cool for longer in the sun. The management plan to build a two floor tree house for chilling out which should be finished by late 2007. A great place to stay if you like to walk -- plenty of local villages nearby, and Mo Paeng waterfall is only three kilometres away.

If you have a chance, go to Amy's earth house. They now have an awesome chill out tree house for chilling out. Management is nice, if you can get Amy to play guitar for/with you, you'll be hooked :-)

The Good View Guesthouse
East of the Pai River
A little nicer than its neighbours, The Good View has the standard huts: bare but clean, with a thin mattress on the floor and a balcony out front. Some are made of bamboo, while wooden A frame ones are a little nicer, although further from the river. Shared bathroom facilities are pleasant and... more
Pai River Hill Guesthouse
Well out of town, south of the Pai River
This friendly guesthouse starts with a small, unassuming restaurant at the top of the hill, right next to the road. John Bamboo Hut
Outside of Pai, near Shangrila guesthouse
Perched on the side of a hill quite a distance out of Pai, John Bamboo Hut's bungalows are clean and basic with bathroom and hot shower inside. One is larger than the others, perhaps suitable for a small family. At the top of the hill is a seating area where tea and coffee are served in the... more
Shangrila Guesthouse
17/3 Moo 1, Pai
Not one for the partiers, Shangrila attracts an older, long-term traveller crowd, particularly small groups of musicians. Cheap, comfortable but basic bungalows, several are taken up by more permanent renters. Up on a hillside, small wooden bungalows have a bathroom with hot shower, and a balcony... more
