Vieng Pai Hotel
Simple but charming in teak

What we say:
ieng Pai is simple and cheap but has tasteful decor that belies its price range. (It does belong to the same guys who own the upmarket Phu Pai Resort, so they can afford it.) The small teak hotel lying right on the main street -- ask for a quiet room at the back -- has a half dozen rooms of varying shapes and sizes on the first floor. The building has been very nicely restored and decorated and for a budget hotel the reception and sitting area looks rather chic. Clean rooms have also been pleasantly decorated but the smaller rooms are pretty poky and with a shared shower and no en suite options. Doors are locked fairly early but they will give you a key if you ask. Staff were not aware of a high season supplement so either there isn't one or they just don't know how much it will be.
