Ban Nam Hoo
Quiet country hideaway

What we say:
Tucked away on the edge of Ban Nam Hoo, this isn't the sort of place you'd come across by accident but if you are looking for it and have your own transport then it is well signposted. Otherwise give them a call from Pai bus station. It's worth the effort if you're hunting for peace and quiet as you won't get more peaceful or quiet than Ban Nam Hoo. A half dozen or so chalets are scattered amid a well-cared for garden, again a good sign that the chalets are also well looked after. They're well spaced and come with attached bathrooms. There's a cafe with minimal food service and internet available. Service was slack when we visited during the low season but that goes for a lot of places at this time of year. It's only actually a 20-minute ride from town if you do have transport.

The best Thai hosts ever!
My wife and I found out about Pak and Noom's little oasis from fellow Canadians we met travelling. We had only planned on ''passing through'' Pai, but ended up staying almost 2 weeks, largely due to our hosts. We spent 6 months in Southeast Asia that year and it was by far our favorite accomodation. It was clean and comfortable, the food and drinks were excellent and Pak and Noom made us feel right at home. Its location on a hillside above Pai meant renting a scooter to get around, but that should be in the plans for anyone visiting this area. The trade-off was a serene setting with a beautiful view of the valley below, gentle breezes and a truly relaxing evening after a hot day of swimming and riding elephants. I might also mention their help getting our packs to and from the bus depot, storing gear while we were off trekking and taking care of my wife when she came back feeling sick. The town of Pai and its sometimes crazy backpacker hustle is a quick 5-10 minute scooter ride away, when you need it.
