Soppong River Inn
Splendid riverside spot, great view

What we say:
Soppong River Inn is an excellent chalet set up in a pleasant garden overlooking the river. A great cafe and bar area has been set up on top of the low cliff above the Lang, making for a top spot for a cool beer after a hard day's trekking. Accommodation is all very nice and very well appointed (with minibar, free tea and coffee, TV and so on), but rather complicated with a wide array of types: Bamboo Rooms, 'Rice Hut', 'River Rim' cottage, 'Leelawadi' cottage, Champa Room and The Baan. Bamboo Rooms are individual chalets, decorated tastefully and with very nice bathrooms. Rice Huts are similar and of equal quality, but made mostly of teak. River Rim Cottage is the only one of these superb chalets with all the facilities, plus a lovely balcony overlooking the river below. The Baan is a large teak chalet suitable for families. The Champa Room is a large room, also suited to families, and finally the Leelawadi Cottage is an awesome and large, two-storey wooden house with balcony and all the facilities you could ask for. All accommodation has hot showers and all rooms are decorated with care and taste. All in all for the prices -- see below – a great deal! Discounts are offered for stays of more than a week or so. A very informative website as well.

Greatest Place I Have Ever Stayed!
Nicest staff, incredible service, very nice beds/room, great common area and restaurant. We were doing the Mae Hong Son loop and stayed here two nights because it was so beautiful! Not much to do in town after sunset, so just hang out on the common balcony after dark and drink some Leo's with the other guests. Caving, kayaking and relaxing in a beautiful place with a great restaurant! Can't get better than this!

No words to describe how wonderfull...
The beautiful garden! The greater than great room (River Rim Cottage)! The view! The balcony! The food! The food! The most friendly staff! I came here, very sick from food poisoning, fell on that great soft bed, with the thick duvet, looking out through the door over the river. When I felt a little better I even more enjoyed the wooden interior, the open air bathroom, all the little details. The food looked so good I made pictures of every dish, and it tasted even better. Usually after food poisoning you're not into eating, but this I couldn't resist and it made me well again very soon. Wished we could stay longer than two nights. I highly, highly recommend this place.

Beautiful setting
Stayed just the one night on a motorcycling tour of the north. In hindsight, should have stayed a few more. Comfortable rooms, stunning setting. One of the best I've stayed in, anywhere! Friendly helpful staff. Good food. A tad expensive for the region, but worth every baht. Off season rate for a bamboo cottage was a massive 500 baht per night! Will return with the wife, preferably in the dry season and use as a base for exploring surrounding areas.

Wonderful place
We stayed at Soppong River Inn for 2 nights at River Rim Cottage. And we loved it. This is a perfect place to escape the hustle & bustle of the city - we came there from Chiang Mai and had a wonderful stay. The place is so peaceful and relaxing, the staff is cheerful, friendly and very helpful – they even chased the giant spider that decided to spent a night on our roof. The room is nice, there’s a fridge and mosquito net over the bed. The outdoor bathroom is a lot of fun, including the morning showers. The balcony hanging over the river is perfect for a beer in the evening (but take some repellent with you) while listening to the sounds of nature. You can also enjoy exploring their garden – lots of flowers, butterflies, tropical grasshoppers. My wife even saw a snake once. Practically, we catered only at Inn’s café and cannot say a bad word about the food and drinks. If you’d like to spice up your meal at the café: order a beer and a plate of roasted cashew nuts with fresh chilies – it’s simple but great! For a change, you can try a local food stall just around a corner. To add to all the above raving – their website is full of information, the photos show exactly what’s there, the communication was very good. I was trying to find some drawbacks but did not find any… Some may complain about the accommodation price but in our opinion it’s one of the places that you don’t regret spending little more money, because you are greatly rewarded with hospitality and you leave that place fully relaxed. If we ever happen to come back to Soppong, we’ll be staying at Soppong River Inn without doubt.

Sooo relaxing
An absolutely wonderful place for a couple to loose themselves for a few days. Rooms are thoughtfully designed and furnished -- we loved the openness of the River Rim Cottage. Food was excellent, and the creative cocktails provided a welcome refreshment on hot days. Many hearty kudos to Burt, Joy, and Joy's sisters for making our Songkran stay in Soppong an especially memorable one, we will certainly return!
