What we say:

Just a few kilometres out of town (five they reckon) towards Mae Hong Son and set in a huge orchard sweeping down to the tree-lined river, is the rather nice Ban Rim Lang Resort. Chalets are above average, reasonably decorated and all come with small balconies and bathrooms, so they're a bargain at these prices. Some of the chalets closer to the river look a bit too close to the water and you perhaps wouldn't want to be in them in the rainy season, but during the rest of the year there's a pleasant shady swimming area as well on the sandy bank of the Lang. Their restaurant -- strictly Thai fare only -- is well reputed in the area, justifiably so as it's probably the best local food in town and comes at reasonable prices as well. This is a handy address if you have your own transport or no desire to go into town.
