Oun I Mang
Catered camping

What we say:
Located down the hill and across the river from Bo Klua View, this little plot of land constitutes an excellent relaxation destination if you haven’t the budget for the more upscale resort. Right along the eastern bank of the Mang River, Oun I Mang boasts several bungalows, a few permanent tent-like shelters, and also offers actual tents for a reduced fee. The name translates directly to Warm steam from the Mang, but involves romantic implications; indeed, the place is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway (so long as your idea of romance doesn’t preclude listening to Thais singing karaoke into the wee hours of the morning). There is a bar and restaurant on site, and while the prices are slightly inflated, the food is excellent, and you are also free to bring your own food and cook it with the grills provided. The bungalows and tents are basic but comfortable, but the shared bathrooms do leave a bit to be desired. There are semi-permanent showers on site, though a few look a bit worse for the wear. All things considered, Oun I Mang constitutes a definite step above basic camping, and if you are not opposed to living with a little nature, it is an excellent choice. WiFi and breakfast are included.

Yes, shame about the karaoke
I stayed here for a night just to compare it with Boklua View, as it looks particularly appealing from Boklua View, which looks down on it from across the river. It looks especially romantic at night. The reality is a little different. The tents are fine - mine was right on the banks of the Mang River - but the shower and toilet facilities not so great. The place itself looks somewhat ramshackle in the light of day. It seems to cater mainly to groups of Thais, who were happy doing their own cooking and unfortunately, singing, until late! The karaoke was really intrusive and spoilt what could have been an inexpensive and enjoyable camping experience. It's a shame as the location is lovely and a little more attention to details - and perhaps even aiming a little more upmarket - would make this a great place to stay. I am told it is only a cool season operation, so perhaps the owners are not that committed.
