Phai Lueng Guesthouse
Good, friendly spot

What we say:
This cute guesthouse, nestled at the mouth of the soi that leads down to Nan Guesthouse and just a short ten minute walk from the bus station, is a bit of a find. All rooms are in a large, two-storey wooden house and are well sized with good linen, hot water bathrooms, cable TV and free WiFi. There's also a decent looking massage joint on site. There is no restaurant, but you can grab meals at a simple Thai restaurant straight across the road and there is a kitchenette should you want to get takeaway from the market to munch through in their garden. Friendly staff, but limited English spoken.

Clean. Good value. Can be a little noisy.
There are two wooden houses converted into rooms with attached bathroom of varying sizes and configurations. There are fan and A/C rooms starting at 250B. The bigger and older building is shown in the thumbnail photo at the top of this page. Rooms are spacious and clean. The bed linens and bath towels are exceptionally clean. Good water pressure in the western bathroom. Efficient water heater and A/C. The staff is friendly but speaks very little other than Thai. This guest house isn't setup for foreign tourists, so you won't find information on bus schedule, trekking/hiking tours, local attractions, etc. There is no on-site restaurant. A small eating shop is right across the street. 7-11 and some restaurants are 150m away. Although there is a massage and spa room, it was closed during my stay. Maybe it's the end of the tourist season. The guest house is conveniently located 700m from the bus station, and it is near the museum, tourist office, bicycle/motorcycle rentals, and several temples. I stayed on the upper floor on the first day but moved to the lower floor on the second day. There is no sound insulation, so you hear everything from the room next to you and the floor below or above you. Walking on the upper floor also produces some noise on the uneven wood plank floor. You'll get the occasional traffic noise from the street in front and the alley on the side. There are also the dogs during the night as this place is in a residential area. If you are a light sleeper, bring a pair of ear plugs.
