Thep Vong Place
Will do at a pinch

What we say:
Thep Vong Place – likely pronounced "teppawong playt" by Thais – is a multi-storey refurbished apartment building and probably the best deal outside the city's old centre. It certainly appeared to be popular with Phrae's squad of English teachers when we visited. Rooms are well sized, and come with minibar, TV, free WiFi (signal variable!) and hot water bathrooms, with both fan-cooled and air-con available. A restaurant is located on the ground floor and the staff were helpful enough. Thep Vong is roughly a 10-minute walk from the old town and night market, but this is better located than the hotels out near the bus station. Rates are best described as variable -- ask and discount you may receive. Overall, this is the pick of a mediocre bunch.
