Garden House was a great deal for 150 Baht. I stayed in a fan room in the main house and it was clean and comfortable and had no bug problems. Yes it get's hot during the day, but what kind of traveler sits in their room in the middle of the day?

I didn't stay in the bungalows, but did hear that mosquitos were a bit of a problem out there. I would sometimes see red-eyed tourists at breakfast scratching their legs.

However, the staff is nice, it's got a good location close to the taxis for the ruins and the bus station, and as long as you stay in the main house and don't sit in your room in the middle of the day, you'll have a great time!

the garden is nice. the room we stayed in is a bit shabby though. only air-con room was left, but the air-con was too cold. my friend got bites from some bugs after staying there for 1 night.

Great place to meet people -

I stayed in one of the rooms inhouse, and you do get a bit of a closed in feeling and the rooms get very hot, but for the price it is good value. The staff is great, and so is the restaurant and the common area. The menu is very nice - try the curries! I found it to be a good place to get information and to meet other travellers.

Good but Noisy -

The bungalows are very nice and set in a beautiful garden atmosphere. Beds are definitely hard and the noise from the surrounding lots is a bit to deal with. Bring earplugs! The folks running this place are very, very nice. Good location for getting out to the ruins.

Pretty, but something lacking -
By mrandmrsburke ( total comments: 25  More information please ) Stayed here 1/2006
We stayed in one of the wooden bungalows. The bathrooms are very clean and the showers nice and hot, but our bed was a bit hard and the fact that they don't give you curtains can be a problem if you like to sleep in the dark, we resorted to putting towels up the the windows to stop the night lamps shining in. Noise can also be a problem if the people in the bungalow next to you are less than thoughtful and have a radio!! We were also woken at 6am one morning by some sort of service announcemewnt, but it only happened once in three nights. The owner is very friendly and helpful and the garden is beautiful. Nice place, but I just can't put my finger on what was missing, we just weren't that comfortable, but if rustic floats your boat, you'll love it.

Great value bungalows -

We stayed in a wooden bungalow with fan and it was just what we wanted: private hot shower, a little balcony to have a cold beer amongst the thousands of potted plants and a short walk into town. There was plenty of information available for traveller's, motorbikes for hire (we went to both Sokhothai and Si Satchanalai on one) and friendly service, plus good breakfasts. It's also near the Chopper Bar which does great food and has good live music.

Banthai Guesthouse
38 Pravet Nakhon Rd, Sukhothai
This very long-running guesthouse is often full due to the very good write-ups it has received over the years. The bungalows are cozy if a little cramped, the restaurant is certainly looking its age, and the rooms with shared facilities are small. Nevertheless it's very popular and a great place to... more

Sukhothai Guesthouse
Vichain Chamnong Rd, Sukhothai
Although the location of the Sukhothai Guesthouse isn't fantastic, this small family-run spot is very comfortable, friendly and popular. The rooms are clean and some have pleasant verandas that look great for an afternoon drink or nap. It's about a 10-minute walk from here to the... more

TR Guesthouse
27/5 Pravet Nakhon Rd, Sukhothai
The very clean and newish TR has well-sized, spotless rooms. It may not be overflowing in character, but it is comfortable and centrally located. All rooms have private bathroom facilities plus there's a good little terrace area out front. There's also internet services, laundry and call ahead for... more

J&J Guesthouse
122/1501 Maeramphan Rd, Sukhothai
Almost next door to No 4, J&J has spacious, concrete bungalows all with private bathroom. The rooms are nothing special, but they are clean and very well-looked after. It seemed as if more larger bungalows were in the works when we last visited in mid-2004. Highlights here are the lovely staff and... more

No 4 Guesthouse
140/4 Soi Maerampan Jarodwitheethong Rd, Sukhothai
No 4's basic but atmospheric bamboo huts with semi-open air showers leave you wondering whether Colonel Kurtz is lurking somewhere around here. The setting is rather exotic, and though we didn't stay here, it looks like mosquitos could be a problem. There's an intimate restaurant and a reasonable... more

Yom River Guesthouse
Riverside, Sukhothai
Set right on the bank of the Nan River, the Yom River Guesthouse is a very attractive wooden house with a range of rooms available, though as we couldn't find any staff we were not able to take a look inside, nor find out the prices. Looks like it would be in the 200-300B range. Worth a... more

Traveller's House
130 Jarotviteethong Rd, Sukhothai
Managed by the staff from Garden House, this new spot has immaculate rooms, with either shared or private facilities. It's not as charming as the guesthouse, but in busy periods worth a... more

Sawasdipongs Hotel
56/2-5 Singhawat Rd, Sukhothai
This place looks pretty average from the outside, but the rooms are well-sized and comfortable, particularly those in the new wing towards the rear of the building. The second, older wing at the front isn't worth... more

River View Hotel
92-92/1 Nikornkasem Rd, Sukhothai
This definitely has the feel of a short-time love hotel, right down to the red lights above the doors that turn on when the room is occupied. It's a great riverside location, but not really worth considering when so many other options abound.... more

Northern Palace Hotel
43 Singhawat Rd, Sukhothai
As of mid-2004, the Northern Palace was being renovated and hopefully the results will be a big improvement on the current room offerings, which are musty and unappealing. It's a quiet location, English is spoken, but it's a little bit of a walk from the centre of town. Other places are better... more

Somprasong Guesthouse
32 Pravert Nakhon Rd, Sukhothai
This long-running spot appeared to have closed when we visited in July,... more
