The quiet Garden House is a newish place with very friendly staff and a good range of budget options. Choose between spotless wooden bungalows running back behind the restaurant, aircon or fan-cooled, or a room with shared facilities.

Cheap - 1st April, 2009
I was intending to stay in the Old City guesthouse, walking distance to the old city (Sukkothai historical park), but I arrived late in Sukkhotai and got a room at Garden House. THB150 for a room with fan, shared bathroom with hot shower, no mosquito net, no electric outlet.
It´s close to the songthaew to the Old City. The next day I checked out and moved ot Old City guesthouse.

Funny Smell - 14th January, 2009
Perhaps it was just because we got the last bungalow in the row, but there was a funny sewer smell coming from the bathroom and the place had quite a few mosquitos despite our attempts to seal them out. The bungalows barely fit more than the bed, but are certainly charming with their thatched roofs and spacious balconies with furniture. We saw plenty of loving couples hanging out which made it both romantic and social. We ended up swtiching to the TR Guesthouse next door just because of the smell and because they had free wifi and we liked it better. You're call.

Good but noisy - 13th February, 2006
The bungalows are very nice and set in a beautiful garden atmosphere. Beds are definitely hard and the noise from the surrounding lots is a bit to deal with. Bring earplugs! The folks running this place are very, very nice. Good location for getting out to the ruins.

Pretty, but something lacking - 17th January, 2006
We stayed in one of the wooden bungalows. The bathrooms are very clean and the showers nice and hot, but our bed was a bit hard and the fact that they don't give you curtains can be a problem if you like to sleep in the dark, we resorted to putting towels up the the windows to stop the night lamps shining in. Noise can also be a problem if the people in the bungalow next to you are less than thoughtful and have a radio!! We were also woken at 6am one morning by some sort of service announcemewnt, but it only happened once in three nights. The owner is very friendly and helpful and the garden is beautiful. Nice place, but I just can't put my finger on what was missing, we just weren't that comfortable, but if rustic floats your boat, you'll love it.

No complaints - 19th February, 2008
Garden House was a great deal for 150 Baht. I stayed in a fan room in the main house and it was clean and comfortable and had no bug problems. Yes it get's hot during the day, but what kind of traveler sits in their room in the middle of the day?
I didn't stay in the bungalows, but did hear that mosquitos were a bit of a problem out there. I would sometimes see red-eyed tourists at breakfast scratching their legs.
However, the staff is nice, it's got a good location close to the taxis for the ruins and the bus station, and as long as you stay in the main house and don't sit in your room in the middle of the day, you'll have a great time!

Great place to meet people - 22nd February, 2006
I stayed in one of the rooms inhouse, and you do get a bit of a closed in feeling and the rooms get very hot, but for the price it is good value. The staff is great, and so is the restaurant and the common area. The menu is very nice - try the curries! I found it to be a good place to get information and to meet other travellers.

Great value bungalows - 8th January, 2006
We stayed in a wooden bungalow with fan and it was just what we wanted: private hot shower, a little balcony to have a cold beer amongst the thousands of potted plants and a short walk into town. There was plenty of information available for traveller's, motorbikes for hire (we went to both Sukhothai and Si Satchanalai on one) and friendly service, plus good breakfasts. It's also near the Chopper Bar which does great food and has good live music.
