Looking for Colonel Kurtz

Around 400 metres towards the bus station from 4T Guesthouse, at the end of a narrow and quiet street, No 4's basic but atmospheric bamboo huts with cold water semi-open-air showers and firm beds leave you wondering whether Colonel Kurtz is lurking somewhere around here.

The bungalows reminded us of slightly above average beachside huts down in the islands; plenty of cracks ensure that a few critters will get in but the mosquito nets should keep you safe in bed. The setting is rather exotic with loads of tropical plants, pottery and carved wooden turtles lying around. There's an intimate restaurant on-site and motorbikes, bicycles and free WiFi are all available. They also offer Thai massage on the single beds that come standard on each bungalow's spacious porch. It's a decent hike into town from here, but the bus station is close by, and No. 4's friendly owners and chilled out atmosphere made us feel like sticking around for a while.
