Looking for Colonel Kurtz

What we say:
Around 400m towards the bus station from J&J, No 4's basic but atmospheric bamboo huts with semi-open air showers leave you wondering whether Colonel Kurtz is lurking somewhere around here. The setting is rather exotic, and though we didn't stay here, it looks like mosquitos could be a problem. There's an intimate restaurant and a reasonable bakery next door. Owners are very friendly, but the location isn't great, 100m down to the end of a soi near the bus station but a long walk into town. Nevertheless, it's a popular traveller hangout.

Charming
No. 4 is a marvelous place! Small but cozy wooden bungalows in perfect Thai style immersed in a lush tropical garden. The place is clean and conveniently located close to the bus terminal. Perhaps the best thing is the warm hospitality and friendliness of the owners! A must!

Relax away from tour buses
This is the nicest place if you like a natural bamboo bungalow. The owners are very friendly, let leave you be. It's a short walk to town (5 minutes) but you'll be amazed at how relaxing it is to come back to the guesthouse. Bird songs galore. Reasonable rates. Stayed at TR first, but it's felt to boxy for me. Like the jungle motif better. Can't go wrong here. Speak very good English. Fun without being a party center. Close to bus station, transit to old sukhothai, 7 eleven... Give it a try. It's worth discovering!

Nung at No.4 - what a gem
I'm not sure how you could have a bad experience with Nung at No.4. Take just a moment to sit down and read the comments in her visitors books to see that she has hundreds of delighted customers who just gush with wonderful things to say about her and the GH. What a wonderful lady - a great heart, very kind and accommodating - and the rooms are lovely too. They're not in the town so yes be prepared to hear things that go 'bump' in the night - but I would say if you're staying in Sukhothai do whatever you can to get a bed here. It's a very short walk from the bus station - just follow the signs and you can't go wrong!

The best
No. 4 Guesthouse was the real Thai accommodation that we were waiting for. Nung (the manager) is as nice as pie and even rode to the bus stop to pick us up on her motorbike. Although it was impossible, we still managed to walk through the reeds before my girlfriend eventually relented and climbed on the back of Nung's bike with her pack on. There was only one other guest so the majority of the noise came from the sound of birds, geckos, frogs and insects that inhabit the swamp surrounding the huts. We slept without the deisel roar of tuk-tuks under an essential mosquito net in absolute peace. I caught up on all of the sleep I had missed over the first week. Nung was a great cook and made us feel so welcome. I 100% recommend this place

Lovely and friendly!
I stayed here in Feb. '07, and liked it so much I came back for a week in April. The bungalows are big, spotlessly clean, and set in a beautiful, shaded garden. The food is excellent, and I took Nung's cooking class, which was great and a lot of fun. Nung is probably the nicest, friendliest person you'll meet in Thailand! No. 4 feels more like a real home than a guesthouse, which is why I came back to enjoy and relax. Definitely my favorite guesthouse I've stayed at in three trips to Thailand!

Great Place
Stayed here for 2 nights at the end of November. One of my guesthouse highlights in Thailand. Nung who runs the place, helped by her nephew Nine (as in the number), is one of the nicest ladies i've ever met. When we stayed there we where the only ones there even though other guesthouses in towen where full, Nung doesn't pay commision to songthaew drivers and our conversation with her found out that she has problems with the 'songthaew mafia' because of this. It's only a ten minutre walk into town but Nung does the most amazing food, she even does cooking class's here. Highly recommended!
