J&J Guesthouse
Plain rooms, good food

What we say:
It is a good thing that first impressions aren't always permanent, since it felt like we were crashing a funeral when we first arrived at J&J. The rooms were a bit expensive for a backpacker place, but quite reasonable for those looking for a resort-like experience, and J&J definitely seems to be aiming for the flashpacker and up crowd. The nice-sized, extra clean rooms all had nice touches like artwork on the walls, tile floors, towels, shelves and wall hooks but no soap or toilet paper. Many had sitting areas just outside. They also offer a full range of backpacker/flashpacker services, like scooter rental for 250 baht per day and a pay internet shack, although the connection was painfully slow all three days we were there. The cafe serves pricey but good meals and has tasty home-made breads, and the small swimming pool was a real treat after a day of exploring the ruins. The location is definitely a bit of a hike from the rest of the backpacker ghetto but not prohibitive. The owners have also just opened the J&J at riverside location just next to the River Guesthouse. It is a string of private bungalows and a riverside restaurant surrounding a modest garden lawn. Rooms are all air-con with TV and other high-end amenities for a uniform 900 baht per night. The nice lady at the desk insists that the rooms are very nice!

Watch what you eat... :(
Well yes, you have a pool and if you pay a pretty penny you can have a really nice bungalow like we did (with a comfy bed), but otherwise, the rooms are overprice (not reflected on this website) and not that great. However, be careful what you eat. Within just a couple hours of eating dinner, I was hit with terrible food poisoning from their restaurant. I know this can happen anywhere, but it was more the reaction of the owners that upset us. He and his wife were rude, uncaring (never once asked how I was or if I needed anything) and inconsiderate. All they cared about was getting their money. It doesn't make being sick any easier when someone is yelling at you that it could NEVER have been their food that made me sick (recent events in the previous days could not have made anything else possible). If you want food that won't put you in the hospital or nice smiles, you won't find that here. Very disappointed.

Pretty Good for the low season
We stayed in a 350B a night fan room with hot shower. Clean, not bad value, but not particularly cheap either. Nice swimming pool, nice grounds and fairly helpful staff. Laundry was THE most expensive I've had done in all me 3 trips to Thailand. Food if good to average but a little on the pricey side. Internet is available but via a strange card system where you pay 50B and have to log in... Fairly busy and plenty of backpackers and families about even in the low season. Would recommend.

Swimming Pool!!!!!!!!!!!!
A swimming pool in deed!! If you need that! At 350 for a large clean bungalow, with hot water & fan set in a nice garden, it is value for money. Near to the town (new town).

Don't rely on a reservation...
Without wishing to rant I do have an intolerance to being shoddily treated... Despite Booking a room here at least 1 week in advance and going through the motions of sending confirmation emails and subsequently receiving them etc we were astonished when we arrived to be told they did not have a room for us. It looked like a nice place, my girlfriend and I were both looking forward to the added bonus of a pool and I suppose people who stayed there will vouch for it but I question the integrity / business nous of anyone who has a reservation process in place but 'forgets' about their customers when they turn up. Therefore, I will not be recommending this place - try the Garden House just up the road (nearer town).

room rates need updating
Nice place, helpfull and friendly staff. Prices are a lot higher: 800 for a bungalow with airon and 350 for a twin room with fan (no flush toilet, but buckets). Good breakfast, home made bread and coffee in real mugs! The place should get some more character, but it's very clean and well-run.

prices are not up to date
i slept one night in this GH, and it cost me 800 bhat for a Dbl A/C private b'room bungalow on low season. on the bright side, it is a good place to stay, with hot shower, TV, and a good restaurant (breakfast isn't include). my advice: book in advance or call first to check out price and room availability

Good Location, Well-Run Place
Agree that the beds are quite hard. Very nice spot in a fairly quiet area, and just a short walk to the main street, night market, etc. Helpful staff and very good facilities. Room was tidy and comfortable, towels were provided, though an extra bed sheet would have been nice. The deluxe bungalows in the back near the swimming pool were beautiful, though out of our price range. The pool was an added bonus as a swim in the river wasn't in the cards for fear of an ear infection. Would recommend this place.
