Sukhothai Guesthouse
Okay rooms, great hospitality

What we say:
A good 10 minutes' walk from the river on the east side of town, Sukhothai Guesthouse doesn't offer the greatest rooms or the best value in town, and the location could be better. Yet, the owners consistently make up for all of this with their genuinely wonderful hospitality. Rooms are set in a small but pleasant area with loads of tropical plants. Some come with air-con and others with fans, but all have attached hot water bathrooms. Inside, they're quite basic and are showing their age, but they are well kept and reasonably comfortable, and the owner claims he'll have 32-inch flatscreens installed in every one of them soon. Each room also boasts what are probably the best verandas in town, all of which feature enough chairs, benches and space for several travellers to enjoy some serious chill time. The porches aren't private, but that's not a bad thing if looking to make some friends. All rooms also have free WiFi and bicycles are available for free while motorbikes may be rented. There's also a restaurant and bar serving up 99 baht cocktails, although there are plenty of great local food options nearby. Sukhothai Guesthouse has been around for a while and consistently sees return customers.

You mean I cant pay as I go?
I can't recommend this place on two counts.sure the staff are friendly but the place is far from the historical park, with a Tuk Tuk needed to the bus station that takes you to the park. Better stay near the bus stop or better still at the park. Now I tried to pay my bills as I went but the owner said he did not want to keep cash on himself all the time as he found it too confusing!? Yet people were checking out each day? I think it's the old scam of the consumer lulled into paying more as they are not tracking their spending.there is a note pad and at the end good luck if you can remember all the purchases. The other issue is bolts used on the door instead of a door handle.Silly as you have to lock your napping partner in to shut the door; to say go to the shop but if she wakes she can't get out! There are better options

Good value
Guesthouse was good. The verandas were very very nice and relaxing. The bed was not very comfortable, but the owner was friendly and accommodating (they picked us up and dropped us off at the bus station).

Pretty good
Was clean, reasonably well maintained, and the owners/staff were very helpful. Is about 200 meters from the center of town -- an easy walk, but not as close the to the ''action'' as some places. I would stay here again. Did not eat here, so can't comment on that. We did get an itemized bill at the end.

Great place and Great food
The Sukhothai guest house, not in any of the guidebooks, is great. The owners were very friendly and father and son speak excellent English and a bit of French and German as well. The guesthouse is situated a few (5-10) minutes walk from the market on the east side of town. They have 12 rooms set up in 4 separate buildings. The rooms are reached on paths winding through the secluded garden and most rooms have a private terrace with a soft cushy porch swing, great for hanging out and reading. All have private bath some with fan and some with AC. I had one of the latter rooms and it was great, clean and roomy with king size bed, and well appointed bath. SukoThai Guesthouse has great Thai food (unlike many guesthouses), and a self serve fridge for drinks. Try the Panang Chicken Curry. The owners were very kind to me, and made me feel at home. So kind in fact that I extended my stay to enjoy the town, and the guesthouse. They are great hosts, and provide a private, comfortable and beautiful little oasis in SukoThai Thailand.
