Description
The majority of guests here are pre-booked on one of Umphang Hill's tours, but they welcome walk-in trade as well. The huts are positioned close together at various points on the hill, but astonishingly hardly any of the huts have a view -- strange considering the altitude that they are built at. we assume that 15 years ago they had views, but all the trees and shrubs have since grown too large and block any decent scenery, which is a shame. However for the price they ask you can't really complain, and to be honest you don't come to Umphang to sit in your hut… walk 100m in any direction from the huts and you'll be surrounded in lush paddy fields with views to die for. The accommodation is varied as there are quite a few different style of huts; the one man A-frame's are ample, as are the 4 person family huts. Don't expect anything flash though.

Phu Doi Camping
637 Moo 1, Phudoi, Umphang
Phu Doi is possibly the best option to stay in Umphang if you've nothing booked and are simply turning up. There's 25 rooms available, varying in size and bed count, all set within a couple of large teakwood houses which have been purpose built as a guesthouse. 24-hour coffee available, a... more

Trekker Hill
Umphang village
Trekker Hill is another decent option for backpackers, with 5 laid back rooms perched on the hill with glimpses of a good view through the trees. The rooms here are A-frame style bungalows and although the interiors are nothing special there's a pleasant balcony area with seating and a table which... more

Umpang House
Umphang village
Umphang House has plenty of grounds so the huts are well spaced out and the surrounding garden provides some good shade on a hot day. The bungalows are pleasant but a tad dated, so it's best to check the room to make sure it's up to standard before you accept it. Some are made from brick, some from... more

Garden Huts
Riverside
Garden Huts is our pick of the bunch in Umphang, because it has a bit of everything. Set aside a small stream some of the rooms have river views, but those that don't are still surrounded by gorgeous gardens full of vibrant colours. There are rooms to suit all budgets, starting with the Balinese... more
