Morakot Hotel
A little better than you might expect

What we say:
The entrance to the Morakot looks like a parking garage, and the building facing the street is dominated by the Yamaha dealership, but the rooms upstairs are a little better than you might expect. They are clean, bright, large, nice and cool, and all the rooms have good cable TV. The prices are a little higher than you'd pay for equivalent rooms elsewhere, but the triples are still very good value. This is also where you get the best deals on motorbike rentals--150 THB per day.

Just to clarify ...
... there are two buildings, the Morakot and the Morakot Twin. Currently the website advertises a double in the Morakot for 490bt and a double in the Morakot Twin for 790bt.

NOT A New Building
Contrary to one review, the Morakot is not in a new building. They've got a new entryway and a glossy renovated lobby, but upstairs it's still the same old good value hotel. The rpices they advertise on-line appear to bear little resemblance to their walk-in rates. On-line they suggested a double air-con was 800 baht. As walk-in guests we were actually charged 450.

Clean and comfortable
450 baht gets you a nice clean room with air con, cable TV, good WiFi and a window with a view of the corridor. Reception girls are friendly with little language skills. A buffet breakfast is available for 70 baht. Look for the tall lime green building.

Brand new building
The hotel now operates a brand new building next door to the old hotel. A few Thai eccentricities of course, but a big room with a zillion TV channels & free WiFi in room. I've just taken the stickers off the hand basin. Nice-ish fittings, air-con, fridge. Rock hard mattress and pillow to enhance the authentic Thai experience. Got the rental car parked in the underground carpark and couldn't be happier. Opening special 700bt(850)inc breakfast.

First time was my last.
Overall i found the rooms to be very nice. But ask how much the room rates are for thais and your in for a shock. If you do not mind being overcharged because your white by all means stay here. I found the staff to be overall sort of nasty.
