Great location, all-round quality
With an enviable location just across the pedestrian walkway from the beach, Golden Beach offers reasonable rates for cushy rooms set on spacious grounds decorated with frangipani trees, blossoms and the odd caged bird.
The cheapest rooms are in a large two-storey building away from the beach, and while lacking the character of the Princeville or Somkiet Buri, they’re bright, comfortable and equipped with TV, air-con, safe, coffee/tea facilities, minibar, balconies and tubs in bathrooms with turquoise tile walls. Request an upper-floor room for a sea view. Set in freestanding circular concrete villas with huge windows and often direct sea views, the “pavilion suites” with vaulted ceilings represent good luxury value, especially when rates are slashed by 50% in low season. The priciest pavilions are spread over a leafy walkway fairly far to the west. Each of them looks directly out at sea but also sits close to the public lane from where your balcony is clearly visible to passersby. The resort has one of the larger swimming pools in Ao Nang, complete with elephant fountains, to go with a seaside bar, restaurant and spa. We’ve found reception to be smiley and helpful. If you don’t mind paying more, neighbouring Villa Resort is another fine choice with larger grounds and an enormous lagoon-style pool.
