Part of the J empire
After receiving a warm welcome on a previous visit, the “I’m too-busy-to-answer-questions” receptionist who we encountered this last time was a bit of a letdown.
J Mansion was the first of what has grown into a group of at least four properties in the area; perhaps the friendly manager who we met before has been predisposed by the newer offerings. Occupying a slightly larger building than the other guesthouses in this side-street cluster, J Mansion’s rooms are bland but spacious, clean and bright, with small tables and large windows that get you a partial sea view from the upper floors. You can choose between fan and air-con, all with TVs, safes and mini-fridges. The rooftop hangout area with ocean views is a definite bonus. In the next side street over you’ll find the J Hotel with similar rates, while J Guesthouse inland from HNT and J Mansion 2 on the way to Ao Nammao are both cheaper and better options for a long stay. J Mansion is a bit pricey but discounts are offered for multiple night stays. Once that receptionist finally had time for us, we were offered a 200 baht discount on an air-con room. You’ll find similar rooms and rates at neighbouring Top View, P.K. and Sea World, as well as at Smile Hotel in the next alley up.
