Aonang Mountain Paradise
Cozy budget option

What we say:
This is another bungalow outfit, down a soi off Moo 2, in a quiet location beneath the cliffs. We're positively inclined towards all the bungalow outfits in Ao Nang as a good alternative to the so-so places closer to the beach, and although the atmosphere here is a bit spare and shadeless, and some of the mountain views are marred by broadcasting towers, the good swimming pool tips the balance in its favour. The grounds feature little salas for hanging out in, and the decorous Thai villas are a comfy-cozy mid-range option. The air-con doubles have very good wood furnishings, with TV, fridge, and slightly stinky bathrooms.

A Disaster
Stay here at your peril. And do not pay in advance. The place is poorly maintained and the pool is green with algae. It's a very long trudge to the beach. We paid for six nights and on the second the electricity failed in several of the bungalows, including ours. We were forced to go to another hotel. In the morning the power was back but it failed once again that night. Without power for the fan, the room was too hot to sleep. We were told to come back for a refund in the morning. But then we were told only the online agent could do it, and since we didn't leave the second night we had to pay for two nights without electricity. Find something cheaper closer to the water. The staff were quite nice but the manager was unsympathetic to our argument that a room without electricity was not what we ordered.
