Phu Petra Resort

Interesting theme, tranquil setting

What we say: 3.5 stars

This creatively designed spot is located just up from Cliff View Resort and enjoys a similarly peaceful and scenic atmosphere. Petra means 'sailboat' in Thai, and the sweeping sloped roofs on all of the resort's structures are modelled after the traditional sailboats apparently once used by pirates in the area -- they certainly add a distinctive touch. The old southern Thai village theme continues with soft green lanterns strung to slanted poles over the swimming pole and huge wood rafters that hold up the bright, airy lobby. 15 detached villas offer lots of space to go with dark hardwood floors, high ceilings, soft beds with mosquito nets, TVs, safes, fridges, desks, WiFi, and gorgeous bathrooms with dark wood shower rooms, rain showers with several settings, bamboo curtains and jacuzzi tubs. The resort offers massage, a shuttle service to the beach, free computers and a restaurant where guests can take cooking classes. Low season rates seemed a bit high and staff wouldn't provide us with high season rates, but this place is one of a kind.
