This spot is a long way from the beach, but has well-designed and tastefully decorated rooms -- you may have to book in advance for the one that has bongo drums. There's a pretty pool area, the staff are friendly and professional and the resort has a lush tropical feel. For the money, it is quite a good deal. There is no charge for kids under ten sharing the bed with parents.

This hotel is okay, but I cannot recommend it. We were unfortunately staying when hit by the tsunami and quite badly injured. Whereas most of Ao Nang's hotels responded appropriately and helped everyone regardless of where they were staying. Emerald Garden Resort were only grudgingly helpful and generally behaved as though they couldn't wait to get rid of us since we were an eyesore for the other guests and bad for business.
