One of Lanta's original backpacker spots, the Garden Home is something of a one-stop spot on a beautiful portion of the beach.
In addition to the fan and air-con rooms that are now priced in the flashpacker range, it offers a convenience store, souvenir shop, travel and tour desk, motorbike rental and restaurant. Fan rooms in a two-storey building are spacious, clean and come with hot water, fridges and balconies, but they're a little overpriced compared to nearby Bee Garden. The air-con rooms offer better value, with thick mattresses, large balconies, bright bathrooms with modern appliances and sea views from some rooms. There's also a small beachfront swimming pool that's a good place to meet some of the youthful travellers that the Garden Home seems to attract. The very friendly and helpful islander owner also runs Alif Apartment, a small guesthouse located in a rubber tree grove along the inland road in northern Haad Phra Ae, which is a decent option for those seeking a room by the week or month. At both places, rates drop by 200 baht in November and March.
