The Mermaid House is worth a look if you're set on a perfectly clean and exceptionally comfortable room that will be a lot cheaper than less inviting rooms on the beach.
Professional in all aspects, the modern four-storey building is situated along the main drag within easy walking distance of southern Khlong Dao beach. The rooms are spacious and immaculate, with polished dark wood floors, soft beds with high quality linens, bright bathrooms and extras like LCD satellite TVs, fridges, large safes and desks. All furnishings and appliances are of a very high standard, and the minimalist design is surprisingly stylish given that the words "mermaid" and "boutique" both show up in the hotel's name. All rooms have small balconies; an upgrade to the deluxe is worth it simply for the sea views from rooms on the higher floors. We found staff to be very helpful and friendly. It's best to book through Agoda or by walking in, as rates on the hotel's website are significantly higher. Prices jump by around 1,000 baht in peak season on all rooms
