European-owned Nik's is one of several quality small resorts clustered between the centre of the beach and the road.
It consists of a few detached concrete villas facing the sea and a few more rooms in an attached single-floor building set around a garden. With an orange theme and cool tile floors, the rooms are set up more for function and comfort than style, though we do like how beds are set in cosy little nooks that are partially separate from sitting areas. All rooms are very spacious, clean and well equipped with fridges, TVs, air-con, huge hot-water bathrooms and good-size terraces with traditional Thai cushions on bamboo benches. The beachfront villa has wide glass doors opening onto a deck perched over the sand. A small but stylish beach bar and restaurant offers good breakfasts that are included in the rates. With so few rooms, you're sure to receive attentive service from the laid-back owner. Another good choice in this price range is nearby Baan Rim Lay, which has similar rooms but less overall space.
