Andaman Inn
Best value on the beach

What we say:
Andaman is the closest to the river on Haad Nopphara Thara and the best value on the beach. The huts are basic but the position is good and it's reliably open year-round. They have two sets of bungalows, with the cheaper ones set to blow away in the next storm. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed.

J2B
I'm not sure where the real Andaman Inn is, however the new place, J2B, is definitely not a backpacker accommodation in terms of price, only in quality. We paid 700 thb per night for a fan bungalow. There's nothing to do on this part of Nopphara Thara, so you're stuck hanging out there whether you like it or not. It wasn't worth it. Down the beach a ways, we met two girls who were paying less at PAN beach. On the first night, an enormous centipede crawled out of the drain after my shower, which could not be evacuated for an hour of panic and fright. I realize this is a part of traveling in Thailand and not the fault of the resort, but the bungalow could use some more solid plumbing, it would seem, if a snake with hundreds of legs can just creep on through without a problem. It served to seal the deal on our dislike of the place. There are some beautiful resorts between J2B and PAN beach that are nearly the same price as J2B but hundreds of times nicer. The staff was nice, a British guy named Rob, his Thai girlfriend Tan, and a young Thai family seemed to be running the place. Rob was more interested in selling us tour packages than socializing with us. The restaurant is overpriced and the food is not great. If you're going to this side of Nopphara Thara, go elsewhere.

Good for lazing, not much else
After witnessing the crowds of Railay, we wanted to find a quieter locale, and find it we did. J2B Resort (the Andaman Inn was bought out 2-3 years ago) is on a stretch of sand that is ghostly quiet. One reason for this is the effort it takes to find this place (a truck to the Noppharathara beach and a boat over to the other side of the river), and another may be that the beach itself is not all that great. Some of the sand is covered in shells (not too soft), and the water is not all that good for swimming. During high tide, you can wade out 100 meters and still be only up to your waist, and low tide is ankle-deep water for as far as the eye can see. As for the cost, we stayed in a fan bungalow for 700 baht/night, which was a little bit of a shock considering the price quoted above. Also, the food is a little overpriced at 150 baht for a curry dish. Other than these complaints, the resort's lawn itself is attractive, and the management is very friendly and helpful (they booked us a tour and shared some snacks). If you do go to this bungalow operation, you should go for relaxation.

I forgot my main point!
According to the owner, Andaman Inn still exists but has moved inland on the headland directly across from the little harbor of Nopparat Thara. It'll be noisy there in high season with all the longtails and the KPP-ferry, but it might be worth checking out nonetheless...

Seems to have moved!
Hey all, we spend two nights on this beautiful beach last september. Initially, we had planned to go to Andaman Inn, but on the location (which was still ID-able due to this crackled sign reading 'Andaman Inn') was a new place called J2B Resort. It's much flashier with AirCon-Bungalows and prices start at 1000THB. We got a much better price from the very friendly manager and owner. The weather was absolutely horrible (the day of the infamous plane crash over in Phuket) and the beach almostly spookily empty - we were the only tourists on the entire beack and J2B was the only resort open. Still, the scenery is amazing, the people are very friendly and we had the best ''shell-seeking'' ever! If you want to go swimming, you'll have to synch' it with the tides since the tidal range is impressively large and the drop-off really slow...
