The man who we presume to be The Funky Fish's owner reminded us of Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh -- on his worst day.
He was grumpy, lazy and seemed annoyed that we were asking to see a room. But when he offers decent digs for these rates, we suppose he can be as unfriendly as he wants. The rooms are set in detached cinderblock structures a quick hop back from the beach, each with a slanted ceiling and funky pink-and-brown paint job. The tiny barred windows contribute to the sense of being in a cell, but the rooms are spacious, clean enough and -- incredibly -- equipped with fridges and hot water as standard. Hammocks hang on private porches, beach dogs roam the grounds and backpackers chat it up in the lively beach restaurant. Note that the rates listed below were quoted in mid March; we presume they will be higher from December to February and perhaps cheaper in the rainy months, but we were unable to get any of that info out of the owner. Walk-ins only.
