Nautilus Bungalow
Good rooms and price

What we say:
On the southern end of Long Beach, Nautilus boasts extremely friendly and organised staff for whom nothing seems too much trouble. Their new, solid wood bungalows have large balconies, and come in fan or air-con flavours. Bungalows are pleasant, without being spectacular, with the open-air bathrooms in particular being well-designed. The resort has a nice vibe to it thanks to the staff and owners. A good restaurant and bar near the beach offers international and Thai food. The proximity to the beach, especially at this end of the beach, is a bonus and helps this resort with a steady customer base year round.

Great beachfront option
There aren't many beachfront options in the budget to flashpacker price range on Long Beach, but this is a good one. (Many midrange places aren't even near the beach.) High season prices have increased to 1000 baht for a fan bungalow, but for that you get an ocean view (we could actually see the sand and the water), a nice veranda area and a very big room. The fridge was a nice touch to keep drinks we purchased from the 7-11 up the road nice and cold. The outdoor bathrooms were enjoyable too. We had read that the open-air bathrooms can be bad at night because the light attracts bugs, but we didn't have any problems with that at all. It was wonderful to have a shower in the middle of the day with the sun shining down! The bungalows are concrete and this is nice because it blocks most of the noise from the bars and other places on the beach. There is a beach bar that makes a racket on Fri/Sat nights and if you were in one of the straw huts next door, I think it would be pretty unbearable. Otherwise, Nautilus is on the quieter south end of the beach, which I prefer. They serve continental style breakfast, but no real restaurant here, but that's a good thing for me because then I don't feel guilty eating elsewhere. ''Spicy'' on the main road not far from Nautilus is recommended, as the food is very tasty and fresh yet cheap. No wifi available on-site but there's several internet cafes just up the driveway. The Swedish owners were very responsive when we wanted to make a reservation via email.
