With minimal online presence and a somewhat hard-to-find location between the beach, the main road and a large private housing development, we stumbled onto the Andaman Sunflower after checking out every other place to stay in the area.
It turned out to be a case of discovering one of the best for last. A soft-spoken and very friendly young woman welcomed us after we had already been greeted by an enormous and endearing Saint Bernard and his spunky Beagle buddy in the stylish restaurant area. Set in rows amid a quiet area that's 70 metres back from the beach, many of the spacious woven bamboo bungalows are shaded by abundant flower trees. The rooms come with comfortable beds, mosquito nets, hardwood floors and large bathrooms, plus some unexpected touches like a single Chinese lantern and fire extinguisher attached to the front porches. Most come with cold water, though larger bungalows with hot water are available. Nearby Angel Bungalows has similar rooms for roughly the same rates, but no restaurant and fewer flowers.
