Friendly with a good range of rooms
Golden Pearl Beach, Ko Jum T: (075) 618 131, (081) 144 2715
This centrally located resort is a good choice for those seeking a budget room with more of a complete package than you'll find at most of Jum's bungalow joints.
The resort offers a large seaside restaurant with billiards table, convenience store, souvenir shop, internet facilities, currency exchange, motorbike rental, free WiFi and a friendly staff ready to greet guests at reception. Apart from the two priciest air-con cabins which are set right on the beach, the free-standing bungalows are all placed around a barren lawn on the opposite side of the road, though they still enjoy sea views and are no more than a 30-second stroll from the surf. The cheapest woven bamboo huts are about what you'd expect for the dirt-cheap rates: tiny, rundown and a bit dusty with nothing but a bed, mosquito net, fan, basic cold-water bathroom and small front porch. An extra 200 baht takes you up to a larger and more inviting bungalow with hardwood floors, while another 300 bags you a less rustic brick and wood bungalow with large glass windows, cotton drapes and interesting pointed roofs.
