Phi Phi Viewpoint Resort
High on the hill with great views

What we say:
Located at the far end of Lo Dalam beach, about a five-minute walk from the beach itself, this resort is a little secluded but still close enough to town and the action. Some of the rooms are way, way high up on the hill, especially the fan rooms — it's a very long, very hot walk to get to them, but the views down and over the bay more than compensate. The grounds are scrubby and largely untended — who'd want to climb that hill to cut the hedges? Air-con is available in both rooms in a longhouse and quite smart deluxe bungalows near the footpath — the latter are by far the better option. The beachside infinity-edge pool sweetens the deal.

Very poor value
We paid 2900 Baht for a room with air-con because it was (in November; rainy season) the only room left we could stay in without a reservation. It was supposed to have a sea-view, but all the trees block the view. The walk to the room was terrible especially with suitcases. The room was filled with dead mosquitoes. The air-con was broken so it leaked into my suitcase. The bathroom was very simple, but with hot water. If you want to turn on the water in the sink, be prepared to get some water on your clothes. The TV had only a few channels. The living room was a hall with a wooden sofa and a little fridge. It was our most expensive room of our entire holiday and it was also the worst. It is not a pleasant walk from the town towards the hotel (far and muddy). The water in the beach is very shallow. The pool and bar are OK and have a beautiful view of the bay. Breakfast and service wasn't good.

Very comfortable, but pricey
We, three adults, just spent three nights at the Viewpoint. It seems that they have really upgraded the place since the tsunami. There is now a lovely pool overlooking Ao Dalam Bay and breakfast and Lunch buffets at 150 and 250B. We paid 3,000B for a large double room with an extra bed. It was on the hillside with a great sea view, had fridge, air-con and cable TV. Very comfortable, but perhaps a bit expensive for Thailand. On the other hand, I would not consider swimming on the Ao Tonsai beach, as all the hastily rebuilt resort have their raw sewage dumped directly into the first several feet of water.
