Located at the far end of the beach, about a 10 minute walk from the beach itself, this resort is a little secluded but still close enough to town and the action. Because of their vantage point high on the hill, all the rooms here survived the tsunami intact and the resort reopened shortly after the event. Some of them are way, way high up on the hill, especially the fan rooms -- it's a long, hot walk to get to them, but the views down and over the bay more than compensate. The grounds are largely untended. The air-con bungalows closer to the base of the hill have very ugly entrance-ways dominated by buzzing air-con units, but all the rooms here are clean, fresh and comfy. The air-con rooms have TVs and fridges while the balconies still have great views. The beachside infinity-edge pool was built before the tsunami and also survived -- it'll cost you to swim here if you bring a friend or you're not a guest. Beside the pool is a dive shop which can organise boat trips and provide snorkelling info. Also here is a good bar/restaurant run by an Irish guy. The Baileys Oreo Shakes are highly recommended.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. Very poor value - 4th December, 2007
We paid 2900 Baht for a room with air-con because it was (in November; rainy season) the only room left we could stay in without a reservation. It was supposed to have a sea-view, but all the trees block the view. The walk to the room was terrible especially with suitcases. The room was filled with dead mosquitoes. The air-con was broken so it leaked into my suitcase. The bathroom was very simple, but with hot water. If you want to turn on the water in the sink, be prepared to get some water on your clothes. The TV had only a few channels. The living room was a hall with a wooden sofa and a little fridge. It was our most expensive room of our entire holiday and it was also the worst. It is not a pleasant walk from the town towards the hotel (far and muddy). The water in the beach is very shallow. The pool and bar are OK and have a beautiful view of the bay. Breakfast and service wasn't good.

Very comfortable, but pricey - 30th January, 2006
We, three adults, just spent three nights at the Viewpoint. It seems that they have really upgraded the place since the tsunami. There is now a lovely pool overlooking Ao Dalam Bay and breakfast and Lunch buffets at 150 and 250B. We paid 3,000B for a large double room with an extra bed. It was on the hillside with a great sea view, had fridge, air-con and cable TV. Very comfortable, but perhaps a bit expensive for Thailand. On the other hand, I would not consider swimming on the Ao Tonsai beach, as all the hastily rebuilt resort have their raw sewage dumped directly into the first several feet of water.
