Phi Phi Don Chukit Resort has two main styles of rooms — old air-con bungalows that are staggered down to the beach footpath and a bunch of fan-cooled rooms in a two-storey longhouse-style building back off the beach. All have a less-than-endearing pale blue colour scheme. While the front row has water views (across the main throughfare), the bungalows are simply atrocious value, but the fan rooms out back, while having the atmosphere of a cinderblock, are good value for a location just a short walk from the water. They have a lot of rooms meaning this can be a good place to try when all else is full. High season rates are extortionate, but discounts are well worth asking after, especially in low season.

Grotty guesthouse at hotel prices

I've never stayed at such an awful place in Thailand. I rang several places before arriving at Phi Phi and every where seemed full, we arranged this accommodation in Phuket. For 2,200B a night it is excessively expensive, rooms are damp and pokey, bed is hard and linen was also damp. Bathroom was filthy, tiles broken off, water was toxic orange and only came out in a dribble from the shower. Breakfast is included but it's disgusting I couldn't bring myself to eat it, ants and flies every where, generally unappetising as is the restaurant which is also filthy. I understand that you have to pay more in Phi Phi, but this place really is a rip off. It's in serious need of a re-vamp. I've stayed in other places in phi phi which give you far more for less money. I'll know to book well ahead next time!
