The Rock Inn
Backpacker option in the village

What we say:
The Rock is a central and very long-running rambling budget haunt in the centre of Ton Sai village. It's sort of hidden up in the rockery behind their boat-restaurant thing. Well shaded concrete rooms are all share bathroom and while there is apparently a dorm on site we were not able to see it. What we were able to see was a fan-cooled single room which contained a bed, four heavily scuffed walls and a window — what else do you need? It's popular — even in low season the restaurant was humming — but for a share bathroom rates are a little high. Nice boat though.

Basic but not bad
I arrived here as a solo traveller right after the full moon party when the whole island seemed pretty busy and most bungalows were too pricy for me without any one to share the costs with. This was the only place I could find with dorm rooms and I paid 200 baht a night for a dorm room with fan and shared bathroom. The rooms are pretty basic, beds are not the most comfortable but each bed space has a very small locker to squeeze your valuables into (bring your own padlock). I don't think (but i might be wrong) there was an actual lock for the dorm and it had about 20 beds so lots of people wandering in and out. There were a lot of people and the beds are pretty crammed together, one girl woke up when the guy on the next bed rolled into hers!! Try and nab a bunk separate from the others! It was also super hot with only one fan in the dorm. The bathrooms are really nice and looked like they had been renovated recently although sometimes there could be a bit of a wait for a shower. I met loads of really fun people here though which was great because i was by myself and most nights we would sit and drink in the hostel before heading out. so it does get quite noisy which might bother some people. if you're travelling as a group you can probably get a bungalow for a similar price or slightly more that would be a lot nicer but if you're by yourself then you couldn't find a better place for meeting up with other people. and if you really don't can't stand how basic it is maybe you could stay here one night, meet some cool people then go off and find somewhere nicer together.
