Thara Guesthouse
Worth the walk

What we say:
Thara Guesthouse is a bit of a walk from the rest of Krabi town, but it's well worth making the effort to seek out. It's the last place stay on Kongkha Rd as you head away from town along the river and is probably the friendliest spot in Krabi, partly because it attracts mostly Thais and western visitors are still rewarded with a warm reception and a good deal of special attention. The rooms are consistently bright, airy and, squeaky-clean -- some offering the same views of the river as you would at the places next door, at cheaper prices. Rooms range in price, with the cheapest ones in the wooden building out back -- a bit cramped, but they've been recently-renovated and are looking good. The air-con rooms are a significant step up, with hotel-style amenities and the best views. There is also a small but pleasant cafe on the ground floor serving very reasonably-priced food.

Not so clean anymore
Revisited a couple of times in September/October 2010 and March -11 and it seems like a slight change of staff got the cleanliness to slowly but surely descend from squeaky clean towards grimy with dust layers building up. There's also growing patches of different colored mold around the building and in some of the rooms. Staff is still very friendly although mostly absent (as in not to be seen much). I think i'll have to find another place to stay for my next visit.

This is a gem.
I stayed here on several different occasions from Oct. trough Dec. and i honestly think i found the best guest house in town. The staff is beyond friendly and the rooms have some basic but nice furniture with comfortable enough beds and are absolutely spotless. The location is nice and quiet, although you do hear the longtails on the river in the morning. It's a nice 5 min. walk along the river to the night market, and another few mins. to the centre of town. It doesn't seem to attract much of the regular backpacker crowd, so if you can live with that, this is the place to go.
