Low on atmosphere

What we say:
This is a reasonable mid-range option among the bars and restaurants clustered on a stretch of Chao Fa Rd, but the place itself doesn't have much atmosphere. The fan rooms out back have no TVs or fridges, and are a bit sterile, with views of nothing in particular, so you're better off heading elsewhere if all you want is a fan. The air-con rooms are a better deal -- they have TVs and hot water. All rooms have private baths.

Really enjoyed the place!
I stumbled in A Mansion just for a chance, as Chan Cha Lay didn't keep my reservation as promised and turned me down. I found a very friendly staff here and I was immediately given a nice room. It's true that it has a bit more the hotel kinda feeling than the one of a guesthouse, but the room was truly pleasant, fairly big, with big bed, air-con and cable TV. The bathroom was the best I had during my trip, with hot water too. Paid 500B for it. There's also a private locker provided in the reception area where to store valuables. There's no restaurant, but just outside the door, there's plenty of cafe's. I particularly liked Cafe' Eightynine: very good food! I'd definitely recommend it.

A gem!
The sterile rooms in the description were actually tastefully done, really clean, spacious rooms. It was so nice, and reasonably priced (400B) that we stayed there three nights. It was the nicest place I stayed in my trip to Thailand. The staff were super friendly, they had secure safety deposit boxes, and the lack of TV was made up for by the absolute comfort of the room. It was the perfect temperature -- it was the coolest fan we we ever stayed in -- it was really nice. The location was also perfect -- two blocks from the night market, and pier (five minute walk to get the ferry or bus to Railay / Ao Nang), and 10 minute walk to the maharaj market. Loved it!

Excellent
A Mansion is a very clean and excellent serviced hotel. What does Travelfish mean when they talk about "low on atmosphere"? ... Do they mean the hippy /reggae/ geronimo kinda stuff Krabi is full of? 400B for a clean fan room, 500B for air-con and 700B for a really big and excellently maintained room with air-con and mini-bar...(very handy if shopping in the local 7/11...) While the A Mansion has no restaurant or bar, within 50 metres you'll find your breakfast & beers in more than one place. They provide a free of charge locker for your valuables too ... Love this place.
