Occupying two gorgeous century-old teakwood houses that sit on either side of the road in the heart of the village, The Old Times B&B masterfully captures the village's antiquarian charm while providing excellent service and accommodation to suit several budgets.
Spacious, immaculate and very tastefully decorated, the most expensive air-con rooms are perched over the bay and have loads of swing-open windows to go with creative names like "Yellow Submarine" and "Black Superman." The latter features a framed black-and-white of Muhammad Ali while another room has a classic portrait of Jake and Elwood Blues to go with numerous antique furnishings. Cushy beds with high-quality linens are placed on raised wooden platforms and draped in mosquito nets, which are needed as the old house's high tin ceilings and wooden walls naturally have a few cracks. Perched right over the water, a shared chill space hosts yoga classes in the mornings, while complimentary breakfasts are served on a long wooden table in the reception area. Immediately across the road, the second house feels even more like "the old times" thanks to a faded cement tub that we assume was used for washing up many moons ago. A few simple but inviting fan rooms with several windows are found upstairs off of a hall that opens onto a large shared balcony from where you can watch the street life go by. We arrived on a scorching hot day to find the fan rooms astonishingly cool, and the spotless shared hot-water bathrooms are no more than a step or two away. While everything mentioned so far is fantastic, what pushes this place from a 9/10 score to a very rare 10/10 are the warm attitudes and personable service from the staff. Recommended.
