Description
This long-running spot has unusual multi-storey wooden rooms which are quite good value. The rooms vary a bit in size and view, so if possible, ask to see a few to take your pick from. Staff are friendly and the resort isn't too noisy in the evening. The stairs here though are lethal, particularly if you have been drinking or if it has been raining, so be warned. Popular with rock climbers.

i found ya ya ok for the price which was also higher than quoted here.we stayed 6 nights.we had 2 double rooms on the ground floor.900 bt each in off season for fan rooms(not air-con).(i think all prices are rising in thailand as tourism is picking up again from tsunami).fairly clean.no musty smell or ants.shower was quirky.after shutting it off,it started to spew scalding hot water for a few seconds.we just got out real quick to avoid 3rd degree burns.beds were comfy.we found desk staff very friendly and helpful.the male restaurant staff were outstanding.very happy and helpful.there was construction going on most days but it did not bother us.the location was the real dissapointment.east beach is a rocky mud bar.quite ugly.so we had to walk to west beach or monkey beach.about 300m.well worth it.fabulous.ya ya is in the middle of the pack for accomadation on railay.we saw cheap dirty bungaloes or high priced resorts with pools etc.i would stay again at ya ya.

THE WORST -
By traveljournos ( total comments: 4  More information please ) Stayed here 2/2007
Pictures show a beautiful resort: actually it is nice from the outside but the inside is the worse I have ever seen in my career of travel journalist: rats, roaches, extremely dirty: the shower is not working; you have to flush by hand your toilet. if you are upstairs after a ladder stairs you haver rats or if you are grounf floor you receive all the excrements of above toilets in yours .........had to take pills to sleep at night to wait the night comes by....worse service . tried to charge for 2 extra nights will see on my invoice if they did not force the credit card. if i did not pay in advance i will have run away in a second

Poor service -
By Kyla ( total comments: 3  More information please ) Stayed here 12/2006
I've just stayed at Ya Ya Resort earlier this week, and found that the rooms are a lot more expensive than quoted here, we were charged 2300 THB per night for a double A/C room, which wasn't even clean when we checked into it. The food in the restaurant was OK, but the service absolutely terrible, I've stayed in a lot of places in Thailand cheaper than this, and had much better service. Obviously this place gets a lot of business as its one of the first resorts you come to off the boat at Railay East, but if it continues like this, it certainly won't get any return visits. I've also just noticed that the updated Lonely Planet Beaches and Islands have dropped their listing.

Never Again -

We got charged double as a walk in price. Rooms had 1 inch gaps round the windows to let the aircon out and the insects in.The balcony overlooked the tip where the rubbish was burnt. Loud bassy music went on till 4am. Finally the beach on this side was filthy when the tide went out e.g. broken bottles, tin cans, plastic, old shoes and everything. This resort is not for the faint hearted.

Railay Cabana
Inland, on the road from the beach near Diamond Cave Resort
Along the beach on Railay East you'll see a sign pointing to Railay Cabana just before you reach the Diamond Cave Resort -- it's a good ten-minute walk to get there. The setting is quite beautiful -- situated just below the looming limestone cliffs -- with a very remote feeling to it. It is remote,... more

Rapala Resort
Moo 2 (halfway between the centre and the northern end of the beach), Railay
This is an excellent backpacker spot. Located at the top of a long flight of stairs, it's quite a climb up, but far from the noise of the long-tails below. There's a long line of bungalows reaching up into the hills -- basic and rustic, to be sure -- mattress on the floor, hammock on the porch --... more

Diamond Cave Resort
36 Moo 1 (at the northern end of the beach), Railay
This massive spot is worth checking out if everywhere else is full simply due to their vast number of rooms. It's a veritable bungalow-burb out behind reception, with row after row of bland concrete cubes. Not pretty to look at, but inside they're clean and reasonably well maintained -- some are... more

Railay Highland

Follow the signs to Railay Cabana to get here, and you'll find it along the way, a good ten minutes walk from the water. The bungalows here are minimalist, but larger and somewhat nicer than the ones at the Cabana. The setting isn't quite as striking, but it's less of a walk to the beach and closer... more
