Railay Bay Resort and Spa
Good pool, shocking staff

What we say:
Railay Bay is a large complex that is a classic example of a place that has substantially upgraded its accommodation but forgotten to tell its staff they need to upgrade their attitudes. The restaurant staff here, in particular, are appalling and probably wouldn't notice if you passed out in your soup. That aside, the rooms are quite good and all generously sized, though their beachfront choices are well overpriced, and the high season prices are insanely high. All are clean and well kept, though the cheapest huts are long, wearisome trek back from the beach. It also has a good beachside pool. Update: Upon our revisit in the summer of 2006, we found the place was being torn up again for more construction and landscaping, which probably why the current low season prices are so low. Expect them to jump back up when they finish. If they ever finish...Rates include applicable taxes and surcharges.

worth the money?
The railey bay was supposed to be our splurge, our one luxury day of the trip; we found ourselves on a peninsular too densly populated with tourists and hotels, bars etc to see through it all and a hotel staff not interested in service at all. the rooms were great, stylish, the pool fancy - but the heart, the warmth, the special thing that makes a room worth a 100 dollars a night !! was missing. good thing was: our room was right at the garden pool. second highlight: if the hotel is booked out they stick you with the sister hotel the ''Princess'': location: in between east and west which means accessible by ugly concrete and trash paths, but inside , if you overlook worn and stained carpets there“s a luxury in its own waiting: a pool set against towering cliffs, a lily pond with a spa over it where you can be all alone enjoying a massage and something differnt on railey: quiet and seclusion just a few steps away from the main drags. if you are willing to pay the price of 7o usd for stained carpets that is. all in all: nice surroundings but it does not hurt to keep looking.

Holiday of a lifetime
My partner and I arranged a 30th birthday (10 day event) at Railay Bay Resort. We arranged it via railay.com and they couldn't have been more helpful in every detail. We had a group of 16 stay here (ranging from 8-86 years) and it was the perfect holiday for all of us. The service was faultless, the restuarant staff excellent making everyone feel happy and relaxed. Breakfast a dream, especially the view! Pools were crowdless in the off season. We have been back in 2009 which we do not normally do for holidays and it has been every bit as good as we remembered. There are certainly many places on Railay to stay, but this one did feel memorable and catered for all.

Depends but I would stay there again!
We booked a bungalow and it was awful but upgraded to a room in the newer blocks and that was super, all wood and marble and really spacious. Eating breakfast in the restaurant overlooking that beautiful bay is one of my best memories of Thailand. Worth staying there just for that. Apart from breakfast we ate at other local places, nicer food and cheaper. Apart from one porter, the staff were not that great but our room was spotless with fresh flowers strewn on the bed each days. I would stay there again just for that view! Railay is a super, laid back friendly place and worth a few days visit.
