Description
For those on a budget, this competes with the Valentine Hotel for the best value budget choice in town. The rooms are clean and come with tv (Thai and Malay tv only), firm beds and the bathrooms are cold-water only with semi-functioning plumbing. Try for a room on one of the higher floors as it is on a busy street corner. The cafe on the ground floor is good and popular.

Simple, but cheap. -

I didn't make it to the Malaysian border as my bus was delayed in Hat Yai. Feeling a little apprehensive (after reading in guide book this was a brothel town)it was late and I didn't want to search for a place to stay. Luckily the bus driver dropped me off at this hotel and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a typical Chinese type hotel. But the rooms were large, had air con, hot water, comfortable ben and a TV. The receptionist was fairly abrupt, but she gave us a wake up call (we needed to get to that border!)

Have you stayed at Thailiang Hotel? What did you think?

Genting Hotel
250 Asia 18 Rd
The flashest digs in town, the 8 floor Genting is the most popular with domestic tourists and tour groups. It has 235 rooms, none of which are breath-taking, but they are clean -- standard mid-range hotel fare, though it could really do with some new carpet. The hotel also has a pool, an air-con... more

Asia Hotel
4-4/1 Charoenkhet Rd
The Asia Hotel is the first place off the rank as you walk down Charoenkhet Rd from the train station. A threadbare place, with some pretty noisy rooms, you're better off passing it by and shelling out a few more baht. The rooms are basic with cold-water showers and dinky toilets. The mattresses... more

Valentine Hotel
Waman Amnoey Rd
The Valentine has had a coat of paint on the exterior, but it looks like they ran out of cash before upgrading the rooms. Located well off Charoenkhet Rd, the Valentine is a lot quieter than the Thailiang and the old lady that runs it is real friendly, but the rooms are pretty basic fare with... more

Savoy Hotel
8/2 Charoenkhet Rd
Primarily a short term joint, it no longer appears to except foreigners, which is a good thing as it is a dump. The cafe downstairs is ok... more
