Description
The Nature Resort has simple bungalows spread amid the trees of the Khao Lak Lamru National Park. Rooms are all twins, but you can push the beds together and if you're lucky you'll have a fridge on your balcony. It's a beautiful and usually quiet spot, except when fireworks are let of at the nearby temple and passing motorists toot their horns in tribute. There used to be a couple of resident gibbons here but they were taken to a reserve on Phuket after they started to get angry.

One of the few cheapies -
By tezza ( total comments: 21  More information please ) Stayed here 12/2006
Nature Resort is high on the headland south of the main beach area, on highway 4 at a sweeping uphill bend just south of the national park HQ and the Km57 post. It has about 40 bungalows spread up a rain-forested slope far enough from the road that noise was not an issue -- traffic noise, that is. The birds, crickets and other creatures plus the plop plop of raindrops from an afternoon storm on the big banana leaves made themselves heard, but this was pleasant. I'd give a 10 for location except it is about a 20m walk down to Sunset Beach. Some bungalows were air-con but I went for a fan job, which started at 400B and was reduced instantly to my 300B offer. This was a big, big timber bungalow in good condition, well shaded by the vegetation, good condition insect screens, king size+ bed which could sleep three adults without being too squeezy, large bathroom with mirror above sink, towels, soap and toilet paper supplied which is not common for cheapies. It had a spacious verandah which was a nice place to hang out in that rainstorm. A broom was supplied and pathways and lighting were in good condition. There is a sizable reception/restaurant area down beside the highway carpark, but the restaurant was not operating, maybe because only about four or five bungalows were occupied. They could sell you a drink. The park HQ is about 400m north and has two restaurants roadside. I ate in the one closer to Nature Resort and the food here was quite good and good value. Back at NR, a short path leads to a clearing on the highest point of the headland (must be 150m-plus above sea level here) where a nice little bar/snack bar was lying unused and looked like it had been for some time. This clearing has tree-interrupted views of the coast northwards from Lak. I noticed a path leading steeply downhill through the jungle to the west signposted BEACH but I didn’t have a chance to check it.

Happy Lagoon
Nang Thong beach, Takua Pa
Sometimes referred to as the Unhappy Lagoon because of the grumpy staff, the Happy Lagoon has a row of simply-furnished, semi-detached bungalows to one side of its excellent restaurant. A bit of interior decorating in the rooms wouldn't go astray, but they remain good value. Happy Lagoon is on the... more

Father & Son
Nang Thong beach, Takua Pa
Father & Son has group of bungalows on a huge lawn behind Nang Thong Supermarket. There are two styles to choose from -- cheap and cute bamboo jobs with mosquito nets and double beds, and better, newer brick bungalows with twin beds. The operation also offers Thai massage, and has an eatery, Nom's... more

Khao Lak Seafood
19/1 Moo 7, Nang Thong beach, Takua Pa
Behind its popular restaurant on the main street of Nang Thong beach, Khao Lak Seafood has a dozen relatively new, very solid bungalows around a semblance of a garden. This is quite a good location because it's reasonably quiet behind the restaurant and yet there are lots of good eateries and bars... more

Jai Restaurant and Bungalows
5/1 Moo 7, Nang Thong beach, Takua Pa
Jai's offers slightly less value for money than the similarly set-up Khao Lak Seafood nearby. The bungalows out the back of this restaurant are more expensive, but older and tattier, and the grounds aren't anywhere near as pleasant. There'll be construction going on nearby for most of 2006 as well.... more
