The Shambhala Resort

Classy with chilled out vibes

What we say: 4 stars

Directly across the street from Thup Thong Guesthouse, The Shambhala occupies a great beach front location and is one of our favourite higher end spots in the area. As far as amenities go, the resort is on par with the best — an excellent beachfront restaurant and bar, a swimming pool overlooking the sea, and rooms that are not only impeccably clean and well equipped but also very stylish. They feature several tall windows, unique Tibetan and Thai art, sliding glass doors on to patios with sunset views, and of course TVs, fridges, mini bars, furniture, and large, contemporary bathrooms. The relatively small grounds are filled with well placed archways and tropical plants, and the whole place is done up in a stylish gold and maroon theme. Despite offering luxury, The Shambhala has a down to earth quality, and the staff, while professional, are refreshingly laid back. A very chilled out vibe hangs over the whole place, making The Shambhala a good choice for those looking for luxury but not a sprawling resort with golf carts and a lobby that looks like a fortress. Recommended.
