Koyao Bay Pavilions

A unique luxury experience

Along the dirt road to the Lom Lae resort, there's a turning that runs through rice paddies, usually populated by water buffalo, cooling themselves in the watery muck and munching on the grass. You'd hardly expect there to be world-class accommodation at the end of this road, but there it is. Three luxury bungalows around a small swimming pool, overlooking the water, along a beautiful stretch of beach. Every room here has a separate, private 'sala' that serves as a living room and the furnishings are all Javanese antiques. It's a great place for couples, but they also make families welcome, providing baby cots and javanese beds for the younger kids, and you're older ones can sleep out in the sala, all at no extra charge per person or per bed. Food is prepared for the guests in a small gourmet kitchen right next to the dining room and lounge area. All told, it's one of the most unique and exclusive luxury experiences available in Thailand.

Koyao Bay Pavilions reviews

Nice, but at a price - 15th July, 2009
We stayed at one of the new houses that overlooks the rice paddys, about 500 yards from the main resort. Georges the owner was very attentive and made us feel well looked after. The house was large and both bedrooms were cool in the evening, however the open concept of the house in general did seem to invite a few more creey crawly creatures than would have been preferred. There is a small restaurant at the hotel, although this was fairly expensive and the food wasn't that great (according to the Thai side of my family) they preferred to get food from local stalls and bring it back to the house which came with a fully equipped kitchen. The location means it is a fairly long walk to the main road, although you can walk around the headland at low tide to Pasai beach in about 20-25 minutes. The three bungalows in the main area looked fantastic with huge salas attached, and would be perfect if you want to laze around the pool/beach although they do come at a price. Evenings are very quiet and peaceful. The only things we thought could have been improved on was the fact there was no breakfast included, you should expect something at 6000 baht a night and there was no complimentary drinking water. The house had a few provisions included but the charges for these were fairly high as well considering they most probably came from the island's 7-11. They also charged extra 1000 baht for an additional bed per night if there are more than 4 adults staying, which considering you have already rented the entire house and the bed consisted of a matress on the floor the price was a bit steep. May return, but probably will check out other options on the island before committing.
