Coconut Corner
A good fun spot

What we say:
Coconut Corner has wooden bungalows all in a row, perpendicular to the water, tucked in a crook where the road does a hairpin turn on its way along Pa Sai Beach. All the rooms have fans, double beds with mosquito nets, private bathrooms, and not a lot else. Air-con versions are in the works. You can't really swim on the beach, but there's a great patch of sand on Nok island just off shore, and they'll ferry you out there in a long-tail for 50B per person each way. Internet is available for 2-baht per minute. The Thai owner, Mr. Bean, speaks English and German fluently, and had a career in the tourist industry elsewhere in Thailand. He's a hell of a nice guy, and it's not a bad place at all. For the price, Sabai Corner is prettier, but something tells us this place might be a bit more fun.

good value - lively host
I got a traditional thatched bamboo bungalow with bathroom for 350b, right on the money. Not too squeezy for two+gear, although shelf speace was limited (a fair few hooks). The double bed had firm but fairly comfy mattress and pillows, the mozzie net was in good condition. Although adjacent to the lightly trafficked road, noise did not bother sensitive me. There was a portable mirror you could move from main room to bathroom hooks. The toilet was squat, no toilet paper supplied, towels were. Water flow was very good except once at 1800, when it disappeared. The verandah was a nice place to spend time, with a hammock and a big park type bench + broom. Nice food, prices were normal for budget bungalows with some exceptions; beer, water and soft drinks were more than normal. Coconut has motorbikes and kayaks, the latter 30% the prices of Ao Nang/Railay over the bay. Bicycles were broken. The host IS a character, with corny greetings and a penchant for 60s rock mixed with modern stuff.
