Really does have a great view

This is one of those rare places with 'view point' in the name that actually delivers -- it's high up on a steep hill and the 180 degree view of the ocean from the balconies goes on forever. The rooms are much better than you might expect for the price, well-furnished, with French doors letting on to the balconies. All have fans, private baths, and hot showers. The name Tabaek refers to the colorful, flowering trees that surround the bungalows, without, thankfully, blocking the view. It's run by a Thai/Japanese couple -- they serve Thai and Japanese food at the restaurant on premises.

Tabaek Viewpoint Bungalow reviews

Read 2 opinions from Travelfish readers

Paradise - 5th February, 2007
As my husband and I are turned off by the pushy English dude at the Sabai Corner, with our backpacks on in sweltering heat, we walked about 5 minutes down the road and up a hill to the Tabeak Viewpoint to find our paradise. There are actually only 4 bungalows currently, with plans to build 4 more in the next year. 2 of these bungalows are rented on a long term basis so really, there are only two bungalows avaliable at any given time. Despite this, we were the only guests there during our 1 week stay in January. Our room was everything you could ask for, a private solid bungalow with a large bed, billowing mosquito net, fan, seperate area for the toilet and shower (with hot water if you need it), fresh daily toilets and bottled water, and best of all, a spectacular view over the Phang Nga Bay from the balcony. The sunrises were breathtaking! The next best thing about this guesthouse is the owner. Pramote is not only a host and excellent guide, but he is the local policeman and an avid fisherman. This translated into a couple of awesome personal tours of local and tourist hotspots for swimming, snorkelling and fishing. Pramote and his wife also accommadated our request for a motorcycle rental and kayak rental (AND secured a local not farang price too!!!) We were also treated to traditional roti and shakes in the market one night, and a personal police cruiser tour around the island's fishing villages, rubber plantations, and of course, police station! It was really nice to be able to appreciate the local island life instead of being holed up in some tourist resort with other tourists for once. If you are looking for a beach or nightlife, go somewhere else. You will not like Ko Yao Noi and the people don't want you there anyways. If you want a quiet, relaxing, cultural experience in Thailand, with easy access to outdoor activities, like good homecooked Thai food, and appreciate gorgeous sunrises over the ocean from your bed, then consider Tabeak!!!

PARADISE FOUND - 26th June, 2009
They have 4 bungalows with hot water (B900) and 3 bungalows with cold water (B700) now. Paramote goes out of his way to make your stay enjoyable and exciting. His Japanese wife Kazuyo is an excellent cook, the 2 local ladies are friendly and always smiling (1 of them speaks English). The view was fantastic, out of this world, food at the restaurant delicious and very reasonable. We tried other restaurants on the island and always went back to their restaurant. They organize trips and rent motorbikes & bicycles. When you stay for more than 5 days Paramote will take you to a nearby island called Koh Nok for a BBQ for free. The tuk-tuk costs B85 per person (going rate on the island) to get there from the ferry. We just loved being there so we stayed for 3 weeks in January and went back for 2 weeks in March. This is indeed a paradise found.
