Description
It's easy to describe the scenery in Thailand as stunning, but this place is set in a location that is truly jaw-dropping -- a small bay of turquoise-blue water surrounded by massive, tree-covered, limestone cliffs. There's a sumptuous pool, and a full menu of spa services. You can play volleyball and badminton, or rent a mountain bike and try you luck on that road out back -- probably the sanest way to navigate it. It's a full-service resort, with well-appointed rooms nestled up in the hills surrounding the bay (the cheaper rooms don't have views of the water). But, for all this, the rooms are -- well, they are getting a bit shabby and smelly, truth be told. Not too badly, but if you're going to pay an arm and a leg to cart yourself way out here to be stranded in the lap of luxury, they might very well air out the rooms, fix the broken sliding doors, polish the smudged and nicked-up furnishings, and make sure the floors are actually clean! Is that too much to expect? Apparently.

Koyao Bay Pavilions
17/11 Moo 4, Ko Yao Noi Rd, Ko Yao Noi
Along the dirt road to the Lom Lae resort, there's a turning that runs through rice paddies, usually populated by water buffalo, cooling themselves in the watery muck and munching on the grass. You'd hardly expect there to be world-class accommodation at the end of this road, but there it is. Three... more

Ko Yao Island Resort
24/2 Moo 5, Ko Yao Noi
This place is an anomaly: a resort comprised of unique, gorgeous luxury bungalows, set in a beautiful location on a remote island, available at a reasonable price. It's no wonder they try to make sure almost no one knows about the place -- otherwise they'd be overrun. The bungalows are a cross... more
