Koh Yao Beach Bungalow
Baht pinchers favourite

What we say:
The bungalows here are on stilts above a marshy bog that floods nightly, when the waters of a nearby inlet rise high enough. The place has a sort of a dingy look, like some misbegotten spot on the Mississippi delta, infused with a similar esprit de swamp. Which is to say, it's an excellent, highly memorable place to stay, and given the rapid development that's about to sweep over the island, it won't remain long, at least not in its present form. All the rooms have private baths, clean beds, and dirty floors. And of course they all have sea views. Well, more like tree-views, with abandoned, rotting hammocks strung up between them. Baht pinchers will want to head straight here, or anyone who's up for a night or two of giggling and saying, Oh my God, I can't believe we're staying here!
